PellucidTM is a data warehouse that encompasses IPRO’s store of publicly reportable health care data. Pellucid data powers the IPRO health care performance report cards and related Web sites, such as the Commonwealth Fund’s WhyNotTheBest.org site.

Pellucid is a unique mix of health care provider information, measure definitions, and measured score data. Currently housing millions of measured data points, Pellucid can easily retrieve health care performance rates for any given provider for any given measure for any given reporting period. It is this unique architecture that allows IPRO to produce health care report cards in weeks, not months.
Data acquisition is performed by the eServices team, and that data is used to produce measures such as the AHRQ Quality Indicators. We also acquire previously-reported data such as the Hospital Compare data from CMS. For hospitals, we have three million rows of data covering 6,000 hospitals reporting data from 2004 onward.
Pellucid is built on open source technology; MySQL Enterprise housed on Red Hat Linux powers the core warehouse.
Health care facility information is updated continually, and new measures are added as they become relevant or endorsed. Performance data is based on evidence based indicators of quality health care. Quality measures focus on inpatient and outpatient care, patient safety, patient satisfaction and experience with care, outcomes (such as mortality and readmission), cost, and volume. Performance measures are defined using standards developed by AHRQ, HQA, HCAHPS, CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (CDC/HIPAC) among others.
