(July 25, 2008) Anthony Shih, M.D., M.P.H., has rejoined IPRO as Chief Quality Officer and Vice President of Strategic Planning, after a two-year stint at The Commonwealth Fund, a national foundation committed to improving U.S. health system performance, where he directed the foundation’s Program on Health Care Quality Improvement and Efficiency.
Board-certified in public health and preventive medicine, Shih, held senior-level positions at IPRO from 2001 to 2006, including Vice President of Health Care Quality Improvement and Medical Director of Managed Care. At The Commonwealth Fund, Shih worked on numerous policy-oriented publications, and is the lead author of a monograph to be published next month as part of the Commonwealth Fund’s Commission on a High Performance Health System.
“All of us at IPRO are delighted that Tony is returning to direct strategic planning for our organization,” said IPRO Chief Executive Officer Theodore O. Will. “We recognize that health care in the U.S. is at a critical juncture. I can think of very few individuals as qualified as Tony to guide us in priority-setting for the next decade and beyond.” Previously, Shih was Assistant Medical Director for a community-based mental health clinic in Northern California that serves immigrant and refugee populations. He holds a B.A. in economics from Amherst College, an M.D. from New York University School of Medicine and an M.P.H. from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
In addition to welcoming Shih back to IPRO, Will expressed gratitude to Tierre Jeanne-Porter, J.D., C.P.H.Q., formerly IPRO’s Vice President for Planning, Quality and Compliance., who recently left IPRO to become Vice President for Employee Development and Labor Relations at the Nassau Health Care Corporation. “Tierre’s passion and dedication to her work are known to everyone who has ever worked with her professionally,” said Will. “We offer Tierre and her family all best wishes as she pursues new challenges.”
