REDUCING HEALTHCARE – ASSOCIATED INFECTIONS (HAIs)
NYC Health + Hospitals
New York, NY
For organization-wide commitment to improving patient care and reducing HAIs. A concerted effort led by Eileen O’Donnell, Assistant Vice President for the Office of Patient Centered Medical and Professional Affairs, resulted in the majority of the hospitals within NYC Health + Hospitals having achieved significant improvements in their rates of central line bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections. In addition, all hospitals within the system have consistently been reporting C. difficile rates lower than the national benchmark.
Queens Hospital Center
For most improved performance in the reduction of HAIs. Queens Hospital Center achieved the greatest improvement in reduction of HAIs of all New York State hospitals participating in IPRO’s HAI project. The hospital’s efforts resulted in an 83% relative improvement in catheter-associated urinary tract infections and a 66% relative improvement in central line bloodstream infections.
