Susan Caponi is a registered nurse and healthcare program executive with more than 30 years experience, with the last nine years focused on the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) community—she is dedicated to ensuring that patients receive appropriate, timely and equitable care. Ms. Caponi serves as the CEO of IPRO’s ESRD Network Program and leads the ESRD Networks of New York and New England-providing quality improvement, data management, grievance investigation, technical assistance, and patient and professional education services for more than 430 dialysis providers and over 41,000 dialysis patients in the states of New York, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Ms. Caponi has been instrumental in the growth of IPRO’s ESRD Network program, with an expanded national responsibility and with the addition of the New England states in 2013.
Previously Ms. Caponi directed the emergency and critical care services of a large Long Island hospital, a position she held for five years, after a series of nursing leadership roles. During that time, she designed and implemented comprehensive programs to educate employees on the importance of customer-centered patient care. She recognizes the critical nature of the provider-patient relationship in nurturing patient comfort and confidence. Ms. Caponi holds a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a master’s in business administration and is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
