As IPRO’s Chief Information Officer/Security Officer, Mr. Alfieri is responsible for the overall management, operation, and enhancement of IPRO’s technology infrastructure required to meet Federal, State, and corporate contractual obligations.
Mr. Alfieri has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare information technology (IT) arena. His accomplishments include development and enhancement of statewide and national health information systems, management of state and federal health care programs, contract negotiation and compliance, work plan development, interface requirements definition, technological needs assessment, operational procedure review, and vendor evaluation and assessment.
In 2012, Mr. Alfieri was recognized as one of the top 100 leaders in the health IT community by the HealthTech Council, a research-based organization providing high impact forums for executive-level collaboration and information exchange on technology issues facing the healthcare community.
Mr. Alfieri is also the first ever winner (2009) of the QIO Program Security Point of Contact Award from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), recognizing superior performance in safeguarding Medicare Information Systems. He has also received the CMS 2005 Award for Outstanding Service to the Standard Data Processing System (SDPS) Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Community.
In addition to such honors, Mr. Alfieri has served on numerous Federal and State Committees and Workgroups including: New York State (NYS) Multi-Industry Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Task Force, NYS Universal Date Set Committee, CMS 2001-2011 National QualityNet Conference Planning Committees, SDPS (the CMS QIO National Data System) Data Work Group, SDPS Data Updates Workgroup, Quantitative Imaging Analysis Core (QIAC) QIO IT Advisory Board, American Health Quality Association (AHQA) Data Network Steering Committee, and AHQA Technical Steering Committee. He has chaired the national SDPS Systems Workgroup, SDPS Payment Error Prevention Workgroup, and co-chaired the national QualityNet Conference. He has presented at numerous national conferences and also held faculty positions at New York City Community College (Physics Department) and St. Joseph’s College (Biology Department). Complimenting this academic experience, he has also served on Our Lady of Mercy School Board.
Prior to joining IPRO, Mr. Alfieri served as Project Manager at Beth Israel Medical Center (New York City) in the Hospital Clinical Systems Department. In this position, he was responsible for enterprise-wide need analysis, system selection, and implementation of comprehensive computer system solutions addressing areas such as admission and discharge, physician order entry, laboratory, radiology, medical records imaging, and pharmacy. He had similar responsibilities as Assistant Director of Management Information Systems (MIS) at Shared Services, a multi-hospital environment. Mr. Alfieri’s employment as Senior Consultant in the Health Care Consulting Division of Ernst & Whinney (later Ernst & Young) complements his background in healthcare.
