As you may be aware, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) maintains an online manual system that offers day to day operating instructions, policies and procedures based on statutes and regulations, guidelines, models and directives. The CMS Online Manual System is used by CMS personnel, CMS partners, State Survey Agencies and contractors (such as IPRO) to administer CMS programs. The purpose of this Memorandum is to make you aware that an updated version of the QIO Manual Chapter 5, “Quality of Care Review” has been placed on CMS’ webpage under Transmittal R17QIO at the following link http://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Guidance/Transmittals/Downloads/R17QIO.pdf. The revised manual instructions are effective May 7, 2012.
