The Healthcare Emergency Hub Mobile App: Emergency Planning Made Easier

For chronically ill individuals and those relying on specialized medical care, emergencies like severe weather events, natural or manmade disasters are far more than an inconvenience. They can put patients in jeopardy of serious and even life-threatening consequences.

To help patients and medical providers prepare for the unexpected, IPRO recently launched a new mobile application, the Healthcare Emergency Hub. Available for free download on smartphones and tablets, the Healthcare Emergency Hub allows patients, care partners, and providers to prepare for before, during and after an emergency. The app is designed for patients receiving:
– Home health and hospice services
– Dialysis treatment
– Outpatient chronic care
– Nursing home care

The app offers free resources to help patients and care partners customize their emergency plans based on their individual medical needs. Users can create and store their emergency medical information in one convenient place. They can input information such as emergency contacts, treatment details, medications, and insurance coverage. Additionally, users can receive real-time emergency alerts and updates based on their location, helping them stay informed and prepared when medical services may be interrupted due to emergency.

The Healthcare Emergency Hub can be used by providers, as well. It provides a place to create a plan for the continuation of care during an emergency. The app offers providers access to free resources to support compliance with CMS and state emergency preparedness requirements. Providers and medical professionals using the app also receive real-time location-based emergency notifications and information.

The Healthcare Emergency Hub mobile app was developed under a grant from the South Carolina Lowcountry Healthcare Coalition and is managed by IPRO. For additional information, visit https://esrd.ipro.org/emergency-management/healthcare-emergency-hub-2/.
