Susan Caponi, CEO of IPRO’s End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network Program, is a distinguished registered nurse and healthcare executive with over 35 years of experience. For the past 18 years, she has dedicated her career to ensuring that individuals with end-stage renal disease receive timely, equitable, and high-quality care. As CEO, Ms. Caponi provides strategic leadership and executive oversight for the four IPRO ESRD Networks that comprise the IPRO ESRD Network Program. She manages a $20 million budget and has been a driving force behind the program’s significant growth since its inception in 2006.

The IPRO ESRD Network Program offers expertise in quality improvement, data management, grievance investigation, technical assistance, emergency preparedness, and patient and professional education. The program supports over 1,900 dialysis providers, 54 transplant centers and serves more than 120,000 dialysis patients across 13 states: New York, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. It also plays a critical role in emergency preparedness and response, supporting dialysis facilities and patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, hurricanes, and other natural disasters.

Before leading the IPRO ESRD Network Program, Ms. Caponi served as the director of emergency and critical care services at a 400-bed hospital on Long Island. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Business Administration, and certifications as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and a Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP). Ms. Caponi’s extensive expertise and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care have established her as a highly respected leader and advocate for advancing care and outcomes within the ESRD community.
